Community Outreach - The Institute
Service Learning Classes
Each year 75 courses across the University incorporate Service Learning in classes, resulting in course-related, direct services to the poor and marginalizes in our community. Each year, approximately 1,200 UDM student volunteers provide about 12,000 hours of service in conjunction with more than 100 community service agencies.
Community Partnerships
LDI maintains partnerships with area community organizations and agencies such as COTS, Mercy Education Project, City Year Detroit, Gesu School, etc., in order for UDM students, faculty and staff to volunteer their support in addressing some of the area's social problems and injustices. Each school year, approximately 1,200 UDM student volunteers provided service in conjunction with more than 100 community service agencies.
Orientation Outreach Program
During the Fall PTV orientation program for freshman students, approximately 240 students and colleagues performed community service at 13 community agencies.
