War of the Worlds

Michigan Premiere
By Joe Landry
Directed by Andrew Papa
November 30 - December 9

The Marlene Boll Theatre

The play celebrates the 80th anniversary of Orson Welles’s 1938 radio adaptation that threw humanity into chaos when aliens made landfall on earth. This radio-play-within-a-radio-play is a thrilling homage to the form’s golden age and a timely reminder of what fear can do to a society.

Events and Special Engagements:

Dec. 02 | The Real on Fake News

Take part in a discussion about how media disseminates information and its real impact on people’s lives. Discover what has changed over time, what hasn’t, and how we become more aware of media literacy in this hyperbolic era of fake news proliferation.

Dec. 08 | Sound Check

The art of sound is both precise and fun. In our production, sound effects are accomplished through foley artistry, a common practice during America’s radio days. Before the play, attend a foley art demonstration and then remain for the performance to see (and hear) sound in action.
