UDM Jesuit Community

The UDM Jesuit community now numbers seventeen Jesuits. They reflect an outstanding variety of skills, professions, and experience.

Albright, R. Gerard
Professor of biology, long-term service as department chair, pre-med and pre-dental students’ advisor.

Bonk, Carl A.
Pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church, long associated with the University since 1877.

Cavanagh, Gerald F.
Charles Fisher III Chair of Business Ethics, author of American Business Values and other books and publications, former Vice President of Academic Affairs at UDM, visiting chairs at Boston College and Santa Clara University.

Florek, Thomas W.
Director of the Institute for Hispanic Lay Leadership, sponsored by the Jesuits of the United States.

Henninger, Mark G.
Rector of the Jesuit Community at UDM, Professor of medieval philosophy, former Dean of Jesuit seminarians at Loyola University in Chicago and founding member of the Jesuit seminary in Zimbabwe. Newly assigned to the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

Hittle, Richard D.
A musician serving the Community, a great appreciator and fan of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Director of student admissions and assistant to the Principal at Loyola High School, a joint project of the Archdiocese of Detroit and the Detroit Jesuits.

Kuhn, Henry C.
House Minister, joined UDM from the Jesuit novitiate in Berkley, Michigan, where he also served as Minister.

Mascarenhas, Oswald
Kellstadt Chair of Marketing; chairman of Marketing department; director of Consumer Research Center; from India.

Muller, Herman J.
Professor of economics, author of The History of the University of Detroit and of a biography of its founder. An avid fan of all UDM sports.

O’Neill, John D.
Professor of mathematics; international reputation for writings in the field of Abstract Algebra.

Saliba, John A.
Professor of religious studies, author of several books on new religions, frequent appearances on TV and radio programs.

Simone, Michael
In Jesuit formation, working in University Ministry. He would like to be a specialist in Biblical studies and languages.

Shen, Raphael
Professor of economics, author of five books on the changing economies of Eastern European countries; completing a book about China’s changing economy.

Staudenmaier, John M.
Professor of history of technology, editor of Technology and Culture (the leading journal in his field), author and frequent lecturer. Currently Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Education at UDM.

Stockhausen, Gerard L.
President of the University; received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan.

Wright, Gary R.
Newly appointed Rector of the UDM Jesuit Community.
Director of University Ministry, former Director of Novices and a former pastor of Gesu Church, Detroit.
