UDM McNichols Campus
The ceremony began with an academic procession. The Inauguration procession resembles a commencement procession but with the addition of two divisions: delegate from other universities and representatives of learned societies in academic regalia. The faculty garments were originally based on traditional colors synonymous with church, royalty and medicine from the Middle Ages.
The ceremony also included greetings from representatives of the University‘s constituents and special gifts were presented, signifying the school’s history and traditions. The Very Reverend Timothy P. Kesicki, S.J., Provincial, Society of Jesus Chicago-Detroit Region, and Sr. Judith Frikker, RSM, President, West Midwest Region, Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, commissioned Dr. Garibaldi to follow the charisms of the two religious orders.
The installation, the actual moment on which the president is conferred with the articles or symbols of office, was performed by UDM Board Chair John Lewis. Garibaldi then delivered inaugural remarks, highlighting the University's history and strategic plan for the future.
