2009-10 Charge

1.    Continue working on collecting, collating and reviewing school/college strategic plans.

2.    Develop strategies to assist colleges in monitoring their Strategic Plans.

3.    Monitor the University's current strategic plan's progress and provide input to the President.

Ongoing Charge

  • Be available for consultation with the administrative leadership of the university, especially regarding strategic planning necessary to address academic issues.

  • When the university undertakes a formal strategic planning process, this team would function as a university-wide strategic planning team to provide input into a SWOT analysis of the university.

  • Provide input into long range planning processes.

  • Suggest ideas for how college/school or unit strategic plans could be more consistent with those of the university.

  • Be available to provide input into strategic issues such as adjustments to become more competitive in the marketplace and more flexible in delivering instruction.

  • During the time period that a strategic planning process is not underway, assess trends at other schools and suggest innovations that could be introduced at UDM.

  • Participate in meetings with the administrative leadership of the university at which major strategic issues facing the university would be discussed.

  • Provide ongoing reports to and consultation with the President of the University or designee.

Initial Organizational Structure and Tasks

  • Determine Team's organizational structure (officers/leadership e.g., chairperson, secretary, and/or other positions)

  • Draft operational policies and procedures (e.g., frequency of meetings, who calls meetings), notification time for meetings (e.g., ten days), time period for distribution of agenda (e.g., five days), timeline for preparation and approval of meeting minutes

  • Establish procedures for keeping records of approved resolutions, advice, membership records and other actions

  • Draft general assessment process and goals for first year (to be updated annually)

  • Include clear time limits for action on various issues as per paragraph 4 under "Further Details" of Shared Governance Task Force proposal approved by the university community.

  • Deliberate and act on priority issues identified by the President ( or designee)

  • Provide Shared Governance Task Force with draft operational policies and procedures by December 1, 2005
