Why I Give

Mary Lou Caspers

As an alumna, UDM has always held a special place in my heart.   My mother, Mary Ann Caspers, willed UDM the funds to begin a fellowship program.  In discussions with colleagues in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Giving Office, we decided to designate a summer research fellowship in her memory to allow undergraduate students the opportunity to continue research projects with departmental faculty.  Students who have received a Mary Ann Caspers Fellowship have presented the results of their work at numerous regional and national scientific meetings and have gone on to prestigious graduate and professional programs.  Thus, I have happily continued to donate to this fellowship program.

Over the past several months, I have encountered UDM alumni from a number of schools and colleges.  Without fail, they have told me how pleased they were with their education at UDM and how UDM shaped them into the successful professionals they are today.  They often mention a particular faculty member who especially touched their lives.  So, when I am overwhelmed with course preparations and grading papers, I remember that we all really do impact the lives of our students.  Please consider donating to UDM so that our students can continue to do “great things”.
