Have you included UDM in your will?
Dan and Margaret Grady did, and they became members of the University’s Heritage Society.
Grady '54, retired from a rewarding 35-year career at Michigan Bell where he ascended to vice president of Personnel and Public Relations. He says his strong University of Detroit education and Air Force ROTC experience provided him with a foundation for professional success.
Fr. Celestin Steiner, S.J., was University president during Grady's student years. Fr. Steiner’s speech on giving made a lasting impression on him. "He encouraged graduates to remember U of D in our charitable plans as we started to earn a living for ourselves," recalls Grady. "He pointed out that our contributions would allow U of D to continue to nurture future generations with the same valuable education we received."
In repayment, Grady and his wife, Margaret, have included the University of Detroit Mercy in their estate plans through a bequest. They became members of the Heritage Society, which recognizes all donors who have made a gift or a commitment to UDM through their estate plans.
"This kind of gift often works better for the donor and the University," says Grady.
