University of Detroit Mercy is celebrating 133 years of commitment to the City of Detroit, the metropolitan area, and the University’s founding sponsors, the Society of Jesus and the Religious Sisters of Mercy, throughout September 2010.

On September 24, UDM also recognizes Mercy Day, the date on which Catherine McAuley, who founded the Religious Sisters of Mercy, began the first House of Mercy on Baggot Street in Dublin, Ireland to shelter, feed and educate women and girls.
