UDM's Commitment to Environmental Sustainability
Supporting the University's Mission to provide excellent, student-centered, undergraduate and graduate education and to integrate the intellectual, spiritual, ethical, and social development of our students, UDM recognizes the importance of building a sustainable future for the campuses. This can be accomplished by efficient energy consumption and sustainable purchasing/construction practices
Efficient use of energy resources lowers utility costs and overall operating overhead while lessening the University's carbon footprint. Decreased operating costs help keep tuition rates competitive and allow the University to shift resources toward supporting academic programs/research; renovating classrooms and dormitory facilities; and hiring exceptional faculty.
Sustainable use of resources—such as purchasing environmentally friendly products and equipment, recycling obsolete equipment and building materials, and supporting local businesses—improves the University's impact on the environment.
