Celebrate Spirit! is the official welcome to the new school year for UDM faculty, staff and students. The service will take place in Calihan Hall on the McNichols Campus. Celebrate Spirit! welcomes people of all faith traditions to ask God's blessing on the new school year.

2012 Theme: “Creating a Healing Community"

This year's Celebrate Spirit! service is sponsored by the College of Health Professions. This year the UDM community is asked to bring items to donate to three community agencies who are assisting the underserved in Detroit. (Details to come.)

Sister Karen Schneider, RSM, M.D., teaches and practices pediatric emergency medicine at The Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, but four times a year, in a unique partnership between her life as a sister and her work as a medical professor, she takes pediatric residents from Hopkins to third-world countries. Schedule of Events

11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
Mass of the Holy Spirit at Calihan Hall led by Rev. John Staudenmaier, S.J., welcoming people of all faith traditions to ask God’s blessings on the new school year. During the service, Sister Karen Schneider, RSM, M.D. will offer a reflection about her experiences providing medical care to underserved populations.

1:00 p.m.
Student Fitness Center grand opening and ribbon cutting follows east of the Engineering Building.

Chrysler1:30 p.m.
Picnic / Tours / Student Organization Fair
A picnic lunch will be available on the mall in front of the Student Fitness Center. The Student Organization Fair, to acquaint students on ways to get involved in students activities, will be held inside the new facility. Tours of the Student Fitness Center will be offered, and games and activities will also occur in the facility throughout the afternoon. The picnic lunch is being sponsored by Chrysler Group LLC.

2:30 p.m. - McNichols Campus classes resume

Open Choir Rehearsal

Choir rehearsals will be held Thursday, Sept. 6 and Thursday, Sept. 13 from 12:45 to 2 p.m.,  in the St. Ignatius Chapel, in the Commerce & Finance Building.

Note:
The McNichols Campus class schedule will be changed on Sept. 20 to accommodate Celebrate Spirit! attendance. Also, food service in The Loft and Titan Dining Room will be closed from 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
