Join the Career Education Center for a series of workshops designed to assist UDM student and alumni in career development and management.  Career Development is a lifelong process that involves more than just finding a 'job.'

Stop by our department to learn about the various career resources available to UDM students. A brief overview presentation of the Career Education Center will be given followed by a Q & A session regarding CEC services with a career advisor.

Wednesday, November 10, 2010 - Successful Interviewing Techniques

Time: 12:30pm to 1:30pm - Location: TBA

Are you familiar with a case study interview?  What is a phone interview and how important is it in making an impression on a potential employer?

Employers use a variety of interviewing techniques to assure that they hire candidates who are a good fit for their company and the position that they are recruiting for.  Knowing tips on a variety of interview styles can give you the edge over the competition.

This workshop will provide techniques for conducting a successful interview. The presenter will cover topics on:

  • The purpose of the interview,
  • types of interviews;
  • Interview preparation tips and techniques.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 - Using Networking as an Advantage in your Job Search

Time: 3:30pm to 4:30pm - Location: TBA

Do you have what it takes to successfully network with recruiters?

Networking is more than meeting recruiters and asking for a job.  Recruiters look for candidates who are have the soft skills to complement their academic learning.  Join the Career Education Center in a presentation designed to sharpen UDM students' communication skills for mingling and social gatherings. What to say, when to say it, how to say it; all in the context of how these skills can give students an advantage in interview settings, corporate social functions and everyday conversation.

Thursday, November 18, 2010 - Call to Serve - Learn about Federal Career Options

Time: 12:30pm to 3:30pm - Location: TBA

Did you know that the federal government needs to hire more than 270,000 workers for "mission-critical" jobs over the next three years?

Mission-critical jobs are those positions identified by the agencies as being essential for carrying out their services and can include but are not limited to UDM students majoring in:

  • Engineering, physical sciences and biological sciences
  • Business and accounting
  • Information technology/ Cybersecurity
  • Medical, nursing and public health

To learn more attend a panel discussion with representatives from the

Participants will receive information on how to apply for career opportunities within these agencies.  This is an opportunity to learn which mission critical areas are needed within federal agencies and to ask questions to assist you mastering the federal application process.
