The purpose of this course is to introduce patient assessment skills utilized in the Dental Hygiene Process of Care. Concepts and techniques of assessment will be introduced and practiced in the classroom and/or clinical setting with fellow students as patients. Assessment skills introduced include the following: 1) Medicolegal Documentation/Informed Consent, 2) Medical/Dental History, 3) Common Medical Conditions and Medications associated with them, and 4) Accessing/Recording Drug Information, 5) Vital Signs, 6) Head and Neck Examination and Lesion Description, 7) Periodontal Assessment, 8) Odontogram, and 9) Communication for Assessment. This course will prepare the student for the assessment portion of patient care in the clinical course. | 3 | 0 | 0 | | |
