Fr. Staudenmaier in PBS program on Henry Ford, Jan. 29
The PBS series American Experience will premiere the episode, "The Titans: Henry Ford," Tuesday, Jan. 29 on PBS stations across the country. UDM Assistant to the President for Mission & Identity John Staudenmaier, S.J., appears in the documentary and served as an advisor to the producers. On Detroit Public TV (WTVS channel 56), the show will broadcast at 9 p.m., as with most PBS stations nationwide.
Be on the radio with "Ask the Professor," Jan. 31
The long-running Ask the Professor (ATP) radio show invites you to do just that: see if you can stump the panel of professors with a question about anything! Speaker: U.S. drones in Pakistan, Feb. 6
On Wednesday, Feb. 6, human rights advocate Sr. Pat Chaffee will be at UDM to share her reflections on her recent trip to Pakistan to investigate the human toll of U.S. drone use there. Chaffee, a Dominican Sister from Racine, Wis., has been advocating for human rights since 1982. Her talk will begin at 7 p.m. in the Ford Life Sciences Building, room 113. Visit Palmer Park WinterFest, Feb. 23
Connect with the community around UDM for the Palmer Park WinterFest event, Saturday, Feb. 23 from noon to 4 p.m. Palmer Park is less than two miles east of McNichols Campus, on the west side of Woodward Avenue, between McNichols and Seven Mile Roads. The festivities are free, including horse and carriage rides, live music, skiing and ice skating (weather permitting), a dog fashion parade, food for purchase and more! The UDM Department of Restorative Dentistry was selected to receive the 2013 American Dental Education Association (ADEA)/ Zimmer Dental Implant Education Teaching Award. The award of $25,000 will be presented in recognition of excellence and innovation, during the 2013 ADEA annual meeting in March.
Michael J. Witkowski, associate professor of Criminal Justice, has been appointed to the ASIS International 2013 Academic and Training Programs Council and will serve on the group's Publications and Student Writing Competition subcommittees. Witkowski will also be a panelist at the ASIS International seminar in Chicago in September, to present on the topic of mitigating gang litigation.
