UDM's Institute for Leadership and Service has opportunities for faculty and staff to get involved with UDM students and to become engaged in the community, from May through August. Save the date: President's Convocation, Aug. 20
Mark Monday, Aug. 20 on your calendar as the date of UDM's 2012 President's Convocation. The annual day-long event serves as the kick-off of the 2012-13 academic year for faculty and staff. Watch for more details as the date approaches.
Coach McCallum in "Shots from the Heart" championship
Detroit Titans men's basketball head coach Ray McCallum has reached the finals of CollegeInsider.com's "Shots from the Heart" free-throw competition, taking on Arizona's Sean Miller in the title match of the head coaches' bracket.
The objective of "Shots from the Heart" is to increase awareness of heart disease and to raise money for the Skip Prosser Foundation. For more on Shots from the Heart, see CollegeInsider.com. Coach McCallum has made every one of his 125 free throws so far. Watch some of them on YouTube.
Professor of English John Freeman wrote the article, "Adopting killer Ignatian apps for Facebook: Employing Jesuit pedagogy to enrich student involvement in social media," which was published in the Jesuit Higher Education Journal.
On May 19, UDM President Antoine M. Garibaldi received an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from the University of St. Thomas (UST) in Saint Paul, Minn. Garibaldi, who is a UST trustee, served as the commencement speaker for UST's 2012 undergraduate and nonbusiness graduate ceremonies, which you can watch on the UST website.
