"Give Kids a Smile" event serves scores of children
On Feb. 4, dozens of student, faculty and staff volunteers from UDM's School of Dentistry and pre-dental programs were able to serve approximately 80 area children during the annual "Give Kids a Smile" event at the School's Corktown Campus clinic. The Give Kids a Smile day is a national American Dental Association initiative to provide free oral health care to at-risk children and to raise awareness of the number of children with unmet dental needs.

Presentation of mosque design project, Feb. 15
A class led by Assistant Professor of Architecture Gilbert Sunghera, S.J., will present the final draft of a sacred space design project for a UDM mosque on Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 1-2 p.m. in the Genevieve Fisk Loranger Architecture Center. Women's & Gender Studies art exhibition starts Feb. 27
The Women's & Gender Studies (WGS) program is hosting its biennial juried art exhibition for 2012, "Behind the Mask: Women, Men, & Masculinities," from Monday, Feb. 27 through Friday, March 2 in the Genvieve Fisk Loranger Architecture Center. The goal of the exhibition is to encourage public conversation on concepts of masculinity and the relationship of men to feminism. Exhibition hours are from noon to 6 p.m. each day, with an opening reception on Monday, Feb. 27 from 5-7 p.m. For details and related events, see the WGS events page.
Student success and retention workshop, Feb. 22
UDM faculty, staff and administrators are invited to attend the online seminar, "When student dreams turn into nightmares: Using the psyco-social 'failure to thrive' model to aid student success," to be presented on Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 2 to 3 p.m. in Commerce & Finance Building room 228. The presenter is psychologist Dave Wood, who created the "TypeFocus Careers" personality, interests and values inventory, which is offered to students by the UDM Career Education Center.
