Save the date for Inauguration, April 13
Make sure to mark your calendar for the official inauguration of UDM's 25th president Antoine M. Garibaldi, Ph.D., to take place Friday, April 13. See the Inauguration website for locations and times of the day's events. Employees are asked to RSVP and faculty must have caps and gowns if they wish process in the installation ceremony. Forms to RSVP and order caps and gowns are available on the Inauguration faculty & staff page.
Celebrate 100 years of cooperative education
UDM employees are invited to join the Career Education Center (CEC), Tuesday, Feb. 14 in celebrating the centennial of cooperative education at UDM and in Michigan. A luncheon and awards ceremony beginning at 11:30 a.m. will include recognition not only of the UDM co-op students and employers of the year, but also the co-op employer of the centennial!
The cost for the lunch is $35, but employees can use the discount code EMP20 to purchase tickets for $20 on the EventBrite registration site. Please register by Tuesday, Feb. 7. Help fight hunger during Super Bowl Ad Nauseum event
All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to drop off canned goods and other non-perishable food items to the Student Center Ballroom Lobby (second floor) on Monday, Feb. 6 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., as a community service component of the Super Bowl Ad Nauseum event (Business Administration Professor Michael Bernacchi's annual Super Bowl advertising analysis program for high school students).
This "Tackle Hunger" food collection project will support the "Kids Against Hunger" program and Our Lady of Fatima in Oak Park will distribute the food throughout metro Detroit.
Commencement booklet archive now online
The UDM Libraries/Instructional Design Studio is pleased to announce a new digital collection of University commencement booklets from 1948 to 2011, now in the online archives.
In addition to graduate information, the commencement booklets provide a history of officials of the University, speakers and honorees and academic programs since the mid-20th century. Explore this key aspect of UDM's history, and watch the archive as the collection grows. To view this and other digital collections, please visit the Library's "Special Collections" page.
Submit Valedictorian nominations!
The search is on for the 2012 Valedictorian, a student who will graduate with a minimum of a 3.70 GPA and who has a meaningful message to deliver to fellow graduates. If you know of such students, nominate them and encourage them to apply. For more information, find the application form on the Valedictorian page. The completed application must be received by Monday, March 5.

Assistant Professor of English Mary-Catherine Harrison's article, "Feeling, fiction, and social change," was published on the online version of the Journal of Victorian Culture. The print issue is forthcoming.
Professor of History Gregory Sumner wrote the article, "Humility and activism: Havel remembered," which appears in the online magazine, Dissent.
