Celebrate Spirit!

Celebrate Spirit! and Fitness Center groundbreaking, Sept. 22

On Thursday, Sept. 22, join with UDM colleagues, students, trustees and alumni at both the annual "Celebrate Spirit!" service as well as the groundbreaking ceremony for the new 40,000 square-foot Student Fitness Center.

Celebrate Spirit! will begin at 11:30 a.m. in Gesu Church (on Oak Drive, a block north of McNichols Campus) and will be followed by the groundbreaking ceremony at 1 p.m. on the Student Fitness Center site, east of the Engineering Building.

Class schedules for the day will be shifted to accommodate these events as well as a picnic and student organization fair.  See the 2011 Celebrate Spirit! page for details on the day's events.

This year's Celebrate Spirit! theme is "Envision a better world, then create it," and the event is co-sponsored by the College of Engineering & Science in recognition of the College's centennial.  The guest speaker during Celebrate Spirit! Mass will be Jim Paul of Engineers Without Borders, a group of 12,000 professional and student engineers working on 350 projects in over 45 developing countries.

Mercy Day celebrated, Sept. 24

Mercy Day will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 24 to celebrate both the feast day of Our Lady of Mercy and the founding of the Religious Sisters of Mercy. Mercy Day commemorates the opening of the first House of Mercy by Catherine McAuley in Dublin, Ireland, in 1827.  Find out more about the early Mercy community on the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas site.

President Garibaldi gives DAPCEP keynote address

UDM President Antoine M. Garibaldi was invited to serve as the keynote speaker at the 2011 fall open house of the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP), Sept. 17 at COBO Exhibition Hall in Detroit.  Each year, DAPCEP programs help prepare thousands of historically underrepresented students for college degree programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and UDM hosts more students than any other DAPCEP partner.  More than 3,000 people were in the audience for Garibaldi's DAPCEP keynote presentation.

For your safety, sign up for emergency alerts

For your own safety, remember to sign up for UDM's emergency alert system.  In order to notify you in case of campus security issues, cancellation of classes or similar occurrences, UDM can only provide you timely messages (text, phone, pager and/or email) if you sign up with the alert system.  Students who sign up by Sept. 23 will be entered for a chance to win an iPad 2!  To sign up, see the Emergency Alert System page.

Thumbs Up!
