Get the inside scoop on upcoming basketball games
The UDM Titans basketball team will be hosting the second of the four "Roundball Luncheons" this season on Friday, Dec. 17 at noon in the Ed & Brooks Room, located in Calihan Hall. Coach Ray McCallum will talk about the strengths of his team and plans for the upcoming games. Admission for the luncheon is $10. For more information, see the event page.
Nursing students help disadvantaged families
A group of ten nurse anesthesia students volunteered for a day with Habitat for Humanity on Nov. 22 as a part of the community service aspect of their Professional Aspects course. Student participant Tiffany Fiedler commented, "We chose Habitat for Humanity because it allowed us to work together as a group to help families that may be suffering in this critical time."
Travel to Italy next spring!
UDM faculty, staff and alumni are encouraged to travel to Italy next spring to help support international study scholarships, as a part of "Titan Traveler's 2011 Adventure!" The tour is scheduled for June 10-22, covering Florence and Volterra. If you are unable to travel, remember that you can still support a student by making a donation! Sessions held to strengthen computer skills
UDM's Information Technology Services department is offering a series of one-on-one training sessions focused on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer for the UDM community. The sessions will be available on most Fridays, hosted by UDM alumna Carol Williams. To sign up, please send e-mail with your name and topic of interest.
Engineering forum held at UDM
UDM's College of Engineering & Science hosted the annual meeting of the Michigan Engineering Colleges/Community Colleges Association (MEC/CCA) on Oct. 15. MEC/CCA provides a forum to share information among institutions of higher education with an interest in engineering.
Associate Professor of Biology James Graves was a participant at the symposium, "Connecting high school reform and the green economy," on Nov. 16 in Ypsilanti. The symposium was sponsored by Creative Change Educational Solutions, an organization dedicated to sustainability education.
Criminal Justice Professor Robert Homant and Professor Emeritus Daniel Kennedy authored the chapter, "Forensics in the field: The example of profiling," in the textbook Transnational Criminology Manual, published by Wolf Legal Publishers.
Associate Professor of Chemistry Matt Mio was recently appointed to the American Chemical Society—Division of Chemical Education—Examinations Institute to help develop its next organic chemistry exam. He has also been appointed to work on the organic chemistry section of the Dental Admission Test for the American Dental Association. His work will continue into 2011.
UDM School of Dentistry Clinical Professor Jonathan Wiens was confirmed as President of the American College of Prosthodontists in November at its annual session, held in Orlando.
