Aug. 24, 2010 begins a new era in online course management at UDM with the implementation of Blackboard Enterprise 9. For the past ten years, UDM has successfully hosted thousands of courses on a scaled-down version of the software suite, and today with Enterprise, more capabilities will be available to enhance the online experience for both students and faculty.
UDM's Blackboard environment is also referred to as our Knowledge site (knowledge.udmercy.edu). The system provides a very user-friendly environment where professors may post information about their class sessions, host online discussions, make available downloadable files and much more.
The new installation of Blackboard simplifies the login process by using your TitanConnect user name and password. Later in the year, the Instructional Design Studio (IDS) and Information Technology Services (ITS) departments will enhance the login process by implementing a single sign-on feature directly from UDM's TitanConnect portal.
Blackboard Enterprise 9 includes an integrated plagiarism prevention tool called Safe Assign. Safe Assign may be used to prevent plagiarism and to create opportunities to help students identify how to properly attribute sources rather than paraphrase. Safe Assign is effective as both a deterrent and an educational tool.
Please watch your e-mail for more announcements on the features and functionality of the new Blackboard/Knowledge environment and forthcoming training opportunities. Faculty that are ready to begin using the new system, may log in today and start preparing for their Term I classes.
