Graduates receive 2010 Vivere ex Missione Awards
UDM recognized two new graduates with the 2010 Vivere ex Missione Awards. Ervis Fama, who graduated with bachelor's degrees in Biology and Psychology, and Theresa Skora, who earned her master's degree in Architecture, were both selected for exemplifying and living out the mission of University of Detroit Mercy.
The Vivere ex Missione ("to live out the mission") Awards are given to graduating students who went outside the norm to live the UDM mission. Among the praise given them for their intellectual, social, ethical and spiritual qualities, Fama was cited for his work as Student Senate president and his involvement with the First Albanian-American Bektashi Monastery, and Skora was cited for her creative efforts on campus and for her commitment to University Ministry programs.
Titans recognized again for academic progress by NCAA
UDM athletic teams all rated well in this year's NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, issued this month for the 2008-09 academic year. In particular, the men's fencing team was credited with a perfect APR score. For more, see the Detroit Titans news release.

Associate Professor of Nursing Maureen Anthony and Assistant Professor of Nursing Joanne Yastik wrote the manuscript, "Student nurses' experiences with incivility in clinical education," which was accepted for publication in Journal of Nursing Education.
Earlier this month, Associate Professor of Education Isaiah McKinnon led a group of Detroit-area community leaders to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. to finalize plans for summer youth leadership seminar trips. McKinnon will take more community leaders and youth for an extended stay in mid-July. The purposes of the trips are to make the history, violence and genocide of the Holocaust broadly accessible to those with no connection to the events, and to create sustained relationships between a wide range of young people.
