Child at Safety Street

Halloween Safety Street needs candy

To once again give neighborhood children some safe "trick or treating" fun, the UDM Student Programming Board will host its annual Safety Street Halloween Party, Friday, Oct. 30, from 4 - 7 p.m. in the Student Center Fountain Lounge.

The event relies on UDM departments and offices to donate candy for the event.  Please bring bags of candy to the Student Life Office by Monday, Oct. 26.  The department that donates the most candy will receive 10 limited-edition Safety Street shirts.  For more information, see the UDM news release.

Varsity News students win awards

Five students who worked on UDM's student newspaper, The Varsity News, during the 2008-2009 school year have received awards in the 2009 Michigan Press Association College Editorial Contest.  The award recipients are Marcus Acuna, Kevin Marlinga, Michael Martinez, Starsha McCrary and Roshelle Vogel. See The Varsity News web site.

Library hosts architecture exam materials

The UDM Library has agreed to host intern architects who are preparing to take their Architectural Registration Exams.  Exam preparation materials, purchased by the Detroit Emerging Professionals Committee of the American Institute of Architects, are kept at the Library for interns to use, free of charge.  UDM is one of only two locations in southeast Michigan currently hosting these study materials.

LCT program reaches into elementary school

Beginning this school year, UDM's Language & Cultural Training (LCT) Department will provide the curriculum and instructional staff for K-5th graders learning Spanish at Old Redford Academy in Detroit.

The agreement, which is in line with the College Liberal Arts & Education's plan for developing strategic partnerships, is also part of a broader vision for expanding UDM services into the community. "This is a great way to introduce students to UDM at an early age," says LCT Director Lara Wasner.
