Celebrate Spirit! and Mercy Day, Sept. 24
Celebrate Spirit! is the official welcome to the new school year for UDM faculty, staff and students. This year, Celebrate Spirit! will take place Thursday, Sept. 24, beginning at 11:30 a.m. in Gesu Church, one short block north of McNichols Road (between Oak and Quincy). After the service in Gesu, a picnic and student organization fair will take place on McNichols Campus around Fisher Fountain.
New students and new employees: you are asked to be part of the opening procession. Please gather in the Maureen A. Fay, O.P., Center, on the first floor of the Health Professions Facility, as soon as possible after morning classes end, at 11:20 a.m. See the Celebrate Spirit! web site for more information, including McNichols Campus class schedule changes for the day.
September 24 is also Mercy Day, celebrating the founding of the Religious Sisters of Mercy. Mercy Day commemorates the opening of the first House of Mercy by Catherine McAuley in Dublin, Ireland, in 1827. Find out more about the early Mercy community on the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas site.
