Dentistry dean to retire

A change in leadership is planned for UDM's School of Dentistry.  Effective June 30, current Dean H. Robert Steiman will retire, after serving the School in various capacities for more than 40 years.  Steiman guided the School through strategic planning, a successful accreditation review and the School's relocation to UDM's new Corktown Campus, which was dedicated April 18 (see photos).

Beginning July 1, Mert Aksu will serve as the new dean.  Aksu has served as a Dentistry faculty member and administrator for more than 15 years, and was primarily responsible for creating the vision for what is today the School's new Corktown Campus location.

Workshops on advising and disabilities

Two workshops for faculty, staff and administrators will take place Thursday, May 8 in the Ford Life Sciences Building, Room 115:

• "Focusing On Abilities" workshop to enable open dialogue with people with disabilities, 8:30 a.m. - noon
• Academic advising workshop to update your ability to advise students on minors, certificates, the Honors program and more, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

RSVP to miomj@udmercy.edu for each session individually.  A lunch, sponsored by the STAR program, will be provided between the two workshops.
