Weather breaks for recycling

Now that the snow and cold is subsiding, it's time to bring your recyclable paper to the Abitibi Paper Retriever at the northeast corner of the Facilities Building on McNichols Campus.  Feel free to bring paper from home, too; the more the better.

The Paper Retriever accepts office and school paper, catalogs, magazines, newspaper with ad inserts, junkmail, notebooks and folders.  (Do not include books, phone books, cardboard, or trash.)  You can use plastic bags to hold the paper, staples are OK, and no sorting is necessary.

Counseling group goes to Lansing

On March 19, Associate Professor of Counseling & Addiction Studies Nancy Calley and UDM Counseling students participated in a day of legislative advocacy in Lansing.

The group (pictured below) met with more than 20 Michigan legislators to discuss the professional counseling issues of mental health parity and school counselor-to-student ratios.  For the fifth consecutive year, UDM students comprised the largest participating group from any Michigan university or counseling organization.

Professors in the media

Professor of Business Administration Michael Bernacchi and Professor of Law Larry Dubin have both made multiple appearances in local media lately.  Bernacchi has been consulted as an expert on both the NCAA Midwest Regional tournament and the effects of criminal charges against Detroit's mayor, in both the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News.

Dubin has been a consistent expert source for articles and radio discussions regarding the mayor's legal problems.  He has made several recent appearances on radio including WWJ and WJR (go to WJR recordings), and has been interviewed by the Detroit newspapers as well as Newsweek.  Dubin also wrote a March 25 editorial for The Detroit News, "System is working in Kilpatrick imbroglio."

Sodexo's event a success; Chef Richard on TV

Richard Flack, executive chef at UDM Dining Services, appeared on WDIV-TV Channel 4, March 28 to select this year's five contestants in the channel's Back Yard Pool & Spa Grill Off, which Flack won last year.
