Sr. Peggy O'Neill

Peace activist visits UDM from El Salvador

Another Founders Celebration event is a lecture by Peggy O'Neill, SC, from University of Central America in El Salvador, tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center Fountain Lounge.  Her talk, "Creating a Culture of Peace in El Salvador," draws from her experience working for over 20 years with traumatized and displaced people during and since the country's 12-year civil war.  Last May, a group of UDM students helped Sr. Peggy make repairs to her Center for Peace Through the Arts in the mountains outside San Salvador.  The talk is open to the public.  For more, see the news release.

Detail of "We the people" line from Constitution

Constitution Day observed on 220th anniversary

On September 17, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia signed the document they had created.  In recognition of Constitution Day, UDM Libraries has posted links related to the Constitution on its re:search portal. Links will take visitors to government sources, news and the Constitution, including some streaming audio and video. There is also a small display of Constitution-related items in the lobby of the McNichols Campus Library.

Spanish class enables better health care

Eight nurses completed their first semester of Spanish for Health Care at Henry Ford Health Systems this summer. Offered through the UDM's Language & Cultural Training (LCT) Department, the course enables health care professionals to communicate with Spanish-speaking patients, a majority of Henry Ford Hospital's non-English-speaking clientele. Find out more in an article by LCT Director Lara Wasner.
