This month's BPPT will feature a reading with poet Clinton Anderson. The reading will be followed by an open mic session.
The Dudley Randall Center for Print Culture, African American Studies Program, and Broadside Press are happy to announce the return of the Broadside Press Poets' Theater.
Featured Poet:
Clinton Anderson was born in LaGrange, North Carolina in 1962. His father, Joseph Anderson, was a well loved local musician, and, his mother Martha Davis, was a skilled seamstress. Anderson was influenced by his parents as well as his ten siblings to be an artist/painter. His first major works were done at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Later shows followed in cities across the country and the world. Most shows have been accompanied with his poetry and the poetry of friends.

Outdoor Tennis Tournament -

The Sand Volleyball Tournament will be played at the Shiple Hall Sand Volleyball Court.
Sand Volleyball features 4-on-4 volleyball rules. Rally scoring will be used, in a 2 out of 3 game format per match. Tournament will be a pool play and/or double elimination format.

Student Programming Board loves the University of Detroit Mercy and we want to show it by bringing the best programs to the UDM community. SPB is operated by undergraduate students through the Student Life Office.
Student Programming Board meetings are Thursdays at 1:00 PM in Grounds Coffeehaus. These meetings are open to all and we love seeing new faces and hearing new ideas.
Guest Speaker: Sister Karen Schneider, RSM, M.D.; Pediatric Emergency Physician, The Johns Hopkins Children's Center, Baltimore. This event is a part of Celebrate Spirit! 2012, the official welcome to the new school year for UDM faculty, staff and students.
Sister Karen Schneider, RSM, M.D., teaches and practices pediatric emergency medicine at The Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, but four times a year, in a unique partnership between her life as a sister and her work as a medical professor, she takes pediatric residents from Hopkins to third-world countries.

Celebrate Spirit! is the official welcome to the new school year for UDM faculty, staff and students. Celebrate Spirit! welcomes people of all faith traditions to ask God's blessing on the new school year. This year's Celebrate Spirit! service is sponsored by the College of Health Professions.
The Mass of the Holy Spirit will be led by Rev. John Staudenmaier, S.J., welcoming people of all faith traditions to ask God's blessings on the new school year. During the service, Sister Karen Schneider, RSM, M.D. will offer a reflection about her experiences providing medical care to underserved populations.
This year the UDM community is asked to bring items to donate to three community agencies who are assisting the underserved in Detroit.

A picnic lunch will be available on the mall in front of the Student Fitness Center. The Student Organization Fair, to acquaint students on ways to get involved in students activities, will be held inside the new facility. Tours of the Student Fitness Center will be offered, and games and activities will also occur in the facility throughout the afternoon. The picnic lunch is being sponsored by Chrysler Group LLC.

Join us to watch the heart capturing film, "Under the same moon, Bajo la Misma Luna".
This film provides us with a brief understanding of the struggles for undocumented Hispanics, as a boys adventure overcoming these struggles in search of his mother. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at UDM with Lambda Theta Phi and the Hispanic American Student Association (HASA).
3-on-3 Basketball - Men & Co-Ed
Leagues for the 3-on-3 basketball tournament are available for Men's and Co-Ed. Co-Ed teams must have at least 1 female player(s).

This event will benefit the Dave DeBusschere Scholarship Fund. The soiree will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by a strolling dinner catered by Titan corporate partner Sodexo at 6:30 p.m. Along with the dinner; the night will feature a storytelling of Titan Tradition and also the presentation of the 2012 Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship Rings. Cost is $100/person for this special event.
The Detroit Titans Men's basketball team will host a weekend of alumni events you will not want to miss. The Detroit Titans Legends & Traditions Weekend will take place on September 21-22 at Calihan Hall and feature many former student-athletes dating back to the 1950's.

This event will showcase the skills of the Titan Legends with a youth clinic and Legends basketball game. The youth clinic will take place beginning at noon with current Titan basketball players and the Legends conducting drills to prepare Detroit for more future legends. The clinic is FREE to youth. On Dick Vitale Court at Calihan Hall, former Titan men's basketball players will then take the court to see who can still shoot, drive, and dunk with the Legends game beginning at 1:00 p.m. Fans will want to arrive early to grab their seats courtside to witness all of the skills the Titans!
