12:00pm [12:00pm] El Paso Service Immersion Trip
Description:
Students will visit the border to experience first-hand some of the issues connected with migrants and refugees. Part of the immersion experience will be incorporating the holiday traditions such as Las Posadas as you build relationships with the local community. Accomodations will be at the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent near Sacred Heart Church in El Paso. The cost of this trip is 600 dollars, including the flight. Applications can be picked up in the Ministry Office. Host Organization: Encuentro Project through Sacred Heart Church 602 S. Oregon St. El Paso, Texas and Fr. Rafael Garcia, S.J. The Detroit Mercy Service Immersion program offers students the opportunity to participate in cultural immersion trips centered around service and learning. Each trip has a different focus that encompasses the social injustices of that region. Trips are led by a student leader and a faculty, staff or alum of the University. Participants will be asked to participate in at least four preparation sessions and one post-trip session.

1:00pm [1:00pm] Forgotten Harvest Mobile Pantry Food Distribution at Lakeridge Village
Description:
*Direct service* In partnership with Forgotten Harvest, Lakeridge Village has a twice-monthly program that feeds food and housing insecure populations in Northwest Detroit through a partnership with Forgotten Harvest. Volunteers assist with set-up and tear-down of the distribution site, handing out food, and interacting with clients. Lakeridge Village is a non-profit organization that provides transitional and permanent housing services to clients referred by the Detroit-Wayne Community Mental Health Authority. The organization also provides additional social services including behavioral health support, opiate dependency counseling, family services, and job training programs. Lakeridge Village holds this event at two different locations. Please take note of the location that you signed up for. Transportation is NOT provided. *Disclaimer* Time is subject to change, as occasionally Forgotten Harvest delivers food earlier or later than expected
