[1:00pm] Transdisciplinary Research Lecture: DANCING THE DATA
Description:
Texas Tech University visiting faculty members Elizabeth Sharp, Associate Professor of Human Development/Family Studies and Women’s Studies, and Genevieve Durham-DeCesaro, Associate Professor of Theatre and Dance, will discuss transdisciplinary collaboration during a three-day residency at UDM. Their talk will draw from the academic literature on performative social sciences to describe issues of integrating the arts and sciences and “borrowing” analytic tools from each discipline. They also will discuss ethical dilemmas involved in re-presenting Dr. Sharp’s narrative research interviews with women as choreography and preview excerpts of the dance performance scheduled for Thursday, February 27, 2014. Both the lecture and dance performance are are in conjunction with the 2014 Women’s & Gender Studies Biennial Juried Art Exhibition: TRANS at Studio Couture in downtown Detroit, February 12- March 13, 2014. This exhibition explores the theme of TRANSITION and will highlight creative TRANsdisciplinary feminist works that explore TRANSITIONing.

Symposium of artists featured in the 2014 Women’s & Gender Studies Biennial Juried Art Exhibition: TRANS. The exhibition will take place at February 12- March 13, 2014 at Studio Couture Detroit (1433 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48226 / studiocouturedetroit.org). This exhibition explores the theme of TRANSITION and will highlight creative TRANsdisciplinary feminist works that explore TRANSITIONing such as: Staying <=> Leaving Movement <=> Stasis Marrying <=> Divorcing Academic <=> Activist Coupling <=> Parenting Closeting <=> Outing Life <=> Death Thinking <=> Doing Creation <=> Destruction Growing <=> Shrinking Being <=> Becoming The exhibition is being co-sponsored by the UDM Women’s & Gender Studies Program and the Lawrence Technological University School of Architecture and Design.
