The American Chemical Society Detroit Local and Student section are conducting a food drive until Nov. 9th to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank. All donations of non-perishable food items are greatly appreciated. There are donations boxes located in the chemistry building lobby as well as the Engineering building main office. Description:
The College of Engineering & Science presents its first annual Student Research Symposium, Friday, Nov. 1 in the Engineering Building High Bay. The event offers those at UDM and the surrounding communities an opportunity to engage with students, faculty and alumni in discussions about research and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The plenary speaker will be Rick Foster, W.K. Kellogg Professor in Food, Society & Sustainability at Michigan State University. Foster will speak about the transformative events happening in Detroit in his presentation,

[2:00pm] Teach English in China Information Session
Description:
Are you graduating soon and considering global opportunities? Have you ever thought about teaching in China? A recruiter will be visiting UDM this Friday (11/1/13) to discuss paid semester-long teaching opportunities in Guangdong Province through China's Ministry of Education. Teachers are needed primarily in k-12 schools to teach English, math, social studies, and science. Candidates do not need to possess teacher's certification in these area; however, a bachelor degree is required, preferrably in one of the subject areas listed above. Compensation includes a monthly stipend, boarding, roundtrip airfare. Attend an information session this Friday (11/1/13) at 2:00p.m. in Reno Hall 26 to learn more about semester-long and yearlong opportunities that are available upon graduation. An overview of teaching assignments, the application process, sample contracts, and questions and answers session will be provided. You will also have an opportunity to communicate with teachers already teaching in China for a perspective on their experiences. This information session is hosted by: Marygrove College - Office of International Programs, University of Detroit Mercy's Language & Cultural Training Department, Education Department, and International Student Offices (ISO).
