[7:00pm] Fr. Fernando Cardinal Lecture
Description:
Fr. Fernando Cardinal, S.J. a legendary 80 year old Jesuit and one of the great moral voices of Nicaragua for over 40 years, now lends his remarkable energies to the Fe y Alegria School of Nicaragua. Later this month Fr. Cardinal and a fellow Nicaraguan Jesuit, Fr. Marco Gomez, S.J., will visit the University of Detroit Mercy. At 7:00 pm on Wednesday October 30 Fr. Cardinal will speak about his life long commitment to the people of Nicaraugua (and to his Jesuit identity; and, more recently, to the Fe y Alegria school, one of many such Jesuit schools across Central and Latin America). The Fe y A schools are astonishing and transformative, Check the pictures on the website and then imagine running a school for hundreds of children in very tough urban neighborhoods. (http://www.feyalegria.org.ni) This is not the first apostolic commitment in Fr. Cardinal's life that has required courage and durable presence. His own story is compelling. He will speak in Spanish and Fr. Gomez will translate for him.
