[7:00pm] Corruption in Paraguay
Description:
Theresa Cameranesi of SOA Watch will give the presentation, "Paraguay: Corruption, impunity, the new-style coup and the need for land redistribution." Theresa Cameranesi led a delegation of activists to Paraguay during the April 2013 elections, coming at the request of Paraguayan human rights groups to observe the elections and also look at the human rights situation in which they took place. The elections came after a coup "expres" which had thrown out the democratically-elected president Fernando Lugo, widely condemned as a break in the democratic process. Seen by some as the model for coups of the future, Theresa will talk about that June 2012 coup, and about current challenges in a land where 85% of the land is in the hands of 2% of the people. First arriving in Paraguay in 1983 as a Peace Corps volunteer, Cameranesi lived three years under the harsh Stroessner dictatorship, and has not been long or far away since. After living among survivors of torture, she started to work with School of the Americas Watch (SOA Watch, or SOAW) and is now on the SOAW National Council and on the Legislative Working Group. There will be updates on the annual SOAW protest Nov. 22-24, at Ft. Benning, Ga. The event is free and open to the public. For more information about CLASA and its events, see the CLASA website. This event is co-sponsored by CLASA and the Gesu Peace and Justice Committee.

[7:00pm] Drop In Yoga
Description:
Jim teaches a class designed to give students the experience of yoga as a journey. Using breath, posture and movement, there is an opportunity to explore our bodies and minds using that deeper breath as the guide. Practice in this environment is full of playfulness, and even laughter, but it also affords a time for quiet inner reflection. Come breathe with us Mondays at 7pm and Wednesdays at 12 noon in the fitness center.
