12:00pm [12:00pm] 13th Annual UDM Ethics Bowl
Description:

The Ethics Bowl is inspired by TV's College Bowl, but modified rules adapt the game to the subject of ethics. The event features teams of 3-5 UDM undergraduates debating contemporary moral issues.

In Ethics Bowl, a moderator poses questions to teams of three to five students. Questions may address ethical problems on classroom topics (e.g. cheating or plagiarism), personal relationships (e.g. dating or friendship), professional ethics (e.g. engineering, law, medicine), or social and political ethics (e.g. free speech, gun control, etc.).

Each team receives a set of ethical issues in advance of the competition, and questions posed to teams at the competition are taken from that set. A panel of judges rates answers in terms of intelligibility, focus, depth, and judgment. No specialized knowledge in ethical theory is required to compete in or judge an Ethics Bowl.

8:00pm [8:00pm] UDM Theatre Presents: The Empire Builders
Description:

French novelist, composer, poet and playwright Boris Vian invites us to observe a world where the DuPont family allows fear of the unknown to overtake their human experience.

Through a combination of pure anxiety, tense humor and unbridled aggression, Leon DuPont fears for his family's life as he forces them to flee from an unseen terrifying threat. In a progression of mounting terror and the blackest of comedy, the family releases their frustration in a frightening hysterical fashion.

Tickets are $20 for general adult admission and $10 for students. There is a discounted adult admission of $17 for seniors, UDM and Marygrove faculty and staff, alumni, donors and Detroit residents. The Theatre Company's box office is located in Reno Hall on the University of Detroit Mercy campus. Hours of operation are 12 noon to 5 pm, Tuesday through Friday. The box office will move on the day of the performance to the Marygrove Theatre and will open 45 minutes prior to curtain.
