In Cauca, a mountainous region in Colombia's Pacific southwest, Francia Marquez, an Afro-Colombian woman leader from La Toma, bravely galvanizes a movement of people who are fighting to hold onto the gold-rich land that has sustained their community through small-scale mining for centuries.
They are currently threatened by government deals with private foreign mining companies that threaten to displace them and harm the environment. Ms. Marquez is on tour with her translator from Witness for Peace.
