Undergraduate Admission Requirements

Freshmen

Admission to the University of Detroit Mercy is selective. Each student who applies is given an individual evaluation. Factors considered in making admission decisions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Our admissions committee gives full consideration to all graduates of an accredited high school or recipients with acceptable scores on the General Education Development Test (GED).

Applicants with a "B" average or better with a competitive score on the ACT or SAT, will generally be admitted to programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Education, the College of Business Administration, the College of Health Professions, or the McAuley School of Nursing.

Applicants to the School of Architecture and the College of Engineering and Science will be expected to present a more competitive record, including ACT or SAT scores.

NOTE: As a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, you apply as a Domestic Student. However, if you have coursework from another country (outside the U.S. or Canada), you must contact a recognized educational credential evaluation service based in the United Stated such as the World Education Services or the Educational Credential Evaluators. Order the evaluation stated below, and have the results sent to the University (see address below).

- If you use WES, order the Document-by-Document Report.

- If you use ECE, order the General Report with Grade Average.

Transfer Students

Standards for undergraduate transfer students vary depend upon the desired major. Applicants with a “C” average or better will generally be considered for admissions. There are many majors (especially within the programs of Architecture, Education, Engineering, and Nursing) that have higher GPA requirements both for the cumulative GPA and for the class grades in required course work. Some transfer guides are online to see which classes can be used for UDM credit. Transfer students with fewer than 24 transferrable credits or 36 quarter hours will be required to submit high school transcripts.
