Sarah Shaffer
At the time of this blog, Sarah Shaffer was a UDM senior majoring in Sociology and Religious Studies. She was also working on certificates in Catholic Studies and Spanish language. Sarah has earned a varsity letter as a member of the Titan Fencing Team. She's an Air Force Veteran and lived in England for nearly six years before returning to her roots in the Detroit area. Sarah has been drawn to study and service in El Salvador through her commitment to Ignatian Spirituality. She doesn't know quite what she'll find there. If she has learned anything from the influence of our sponsors; the Sisters of Mercy and the Jesuits, she knows she will be challenged but that God is right there in the midst of everything.
Melinda Gaston
Melinda earned her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University. Her blog focused on a trip to Spain taken with the MBA 594 - International Studies in Business Class taught by Professor Gregory Ulferts. "When I decided to get my MBA to complement my technical degree I chose U of D Mercy because of it's reputation and also because of the flexibility associated with attending a Jesuit University given the MBA Multilateral Agreement. By participating in this course (MBA 594-International Business Studies) I am looking to gain a better understanding of business strategies and leadership from an international perspective with consideration to culture."

Jake Gehring
A graduate of the Architecture Program, Jake was a junior in one of UDM's "study abroad" programs studying architecture in Poland. While there, he focused on European culture and watercolor - both for the personal experience as well as to add something unique to his resume. Jake said he wanted to learn how people around the world practice architecture so that he could apply the best method in his own practice.
