Freshmen at UDM

SOAR Two-Day Schedule

SOAR: Two-day schedule of activities

First Day

Morning

Check in at the Student Center Fountain Lounge. You’ll receive your personal two-day schedule, meet your Orientation Leader, and move your belongings into Shiple Hall for the overnight stay.  Still have a few minutes?  Visit the Resource Fair, also located in the Fountain Lounge.

An opening session introduces you to the University and the academic requirements of your college. Placement exams in English, math and computer skills will begin just before lunch. Placement exams help your advisor recommend appropriate course levels.

Lunch

Lunch with your orientation group. This is your chance to get to know the students who will make up your individual orientation group and your mentor.  Fuel up with lunch and get ready for the last of your exams.

Afternoon

Placement exams in chemistry and languages for some students…others will move on to pre-dinner programming.

Evening

Evening activities start with dinner where all Summer Orientation groups get together for food, fun and interactive group activities and team building. A special session will focus on how the University mission will become a part of your life at UDM. And finally—head over to the Grounds Coffeehaus for entertainment and ice cream, then to Calihan Hall for a walleyball or basketball workout in the Fitness Center, followed by pizza.

Second Day

Morning

Breakfast with your group will get you up and going for the day, which will include:

  • Academic Advisor Meetings— Time to review your planned curriculum and placement exam results, then select courses for your fall semester.
  • Registration—Choose the times and professors you prefer, so you can leave with your actual fall class schedule.
  • Wrap-up Lunch—Just enough time to grab lunch, turn in your program evaluation, say your good-byes, and get your free gift!
