College honors distinguished alumni of the year
At
University of Detroit Mercy’s annual Honors Convocation, April 3,
the College of Health Professions recognized five distinguished alumni for
their outstanding demonstration of excellence in their field. These Health
Professions graduates have committed their time not only to serving those
in their professional community, but those in their personal community as
well.
Message from the Dean
As we approach the end of the official academic year, I reflect upon this
being a “Year of Changes.”
Second Annual CHP Alumni
Week: Michigan's Chief Nursing Executive addresses "Nursing Agenda"
Alumni from a variety of health care fields participated in the College
of Health Professions’ Alumni Week, Feb. 21 to 25. Jeanette Wrona Klemczak
’65, Michigan’s chief nursing executive, was the week’s
keynote speaker.
UDM’s Alumni Homecoming 2005 event, Feb. 26, included several “firsts” for University alumni.
Nurse Anesthesiology partners with
Oakwood
Nurse Anesthesiology students now have a better opportunity to gain on-the-job
experience through University of Detroit Mercy’s expanded relationship
with Oakwood Health Systems.

Seven University of Detroit Mercy Health Services Administration (HSA) students
participated in this year’s Job Shadow Day sponsored by the Michigan
Healthcare Executives Group and Associates (MHEGA) on Feb. 7.
Health Systems Management program meets
nursing challenges
Almost every day the media covers stories about health care trends. Many highlight
how hospitals in Detroit and across the nation are implementing plans to computerize
patient information to improve the quality and efficiency of their health
care systems.

Professions programs
During the past year, several Health Professions programs have participated
in accreditation review processes.
College expresses appreciation to donors
College of Health Professions Dean Suzanne Mellon recently hosted a lunch
thanking a number of major donors to the new Health Professions facility.
