Graduate Gudrun Marcotty trades in retirement for the classroom
Most people are well into retirement by the time they reach their late 70s, but recent UDM graduate Gudrun Elsa Marcotty, who turns 80 in June, went back to school. She already had experienced a successful career as a medical doctor, having earned her M.D. from the University of Frieberg in Germany, but Marcotty says she needed a new sense of purpose as she entered the next phase of her life. Last December, the Bloomfield township resident completed her Master of Arts in Addiction Studies at UDM with a 3.95 grade point average. She's already putting her degree to use in a new career counseling clients in a Detroit area clinic.
