Grant funding will help School develop brand new master’s program
The School of Architecture recently learned that it will receive funding from the 3M Foundation through its Vision Grant Initiative to help the School develop a Master of Community Development degree.
Presently, the degree is in the planning stages. Though administered through the School of Architecture, the new degree is being designed as an interdisciplinary program that will be taught through the faculty from the University’s seven schools and colleges. It is aimed toward community stakeholders, including government, business and neighborhood leaders, to educate and promote the revitalization of their urban communities and to create healthy and sustainable neighborhoods.
Through the integration of theory and practice, candidates for the master’s
degree will study under an interdisciplinary faculty of professional architects,
engineers, planners, social workers, political scientists, real estate developers,
economists, environmentalists, attorneys and organizational behavioralists.
Students will use collaborative problem solving, critical thinking and analysis
in their approach to community enhancement projects.
We’ll keep alumni appraised as this exciting new program develops.
