Slide Rule Dinner honors outstanding students, faculty and alumni

E&S Dean Leo Hanifin confers the title of "Honorary Engineer and Scientist" upon President Maureen A. Fay, O.P., at the Annual Slide Rule Dinner, March 27.

The College of Engineering & Science held its 72nd Annual Slide Rule Dinner, March 27 at the Lakeland Manor in St. Clair Shores. Highlights of the evening included special recognition of students, faculty and alumni. Noreen F. Rossi, M.D., ’74, program director of the Division of Nephrology and professor at Wayne State University, and Louis A. Povinelli, Ph.D, ’54, were recognized as alumni of the year in science and engineering, respectively (see related articles).

E&S Dean Leo Hanifin proclaimed that UDM President Maureen A. Fay, O.P., was “forevermore to be known as Honorary Engineer and Scientist of the highest order, and that she be anointed with the holy chrism of motor oil of the machines and the sodium chloride of the earth.” Wisely, President Fay accepted the designation of honor but declined the anointing.
