Students awarded at Honors Convocation

The UDM Honors Convocation on March 28, 2004 was a memorable evening for
CBA students, faculty and alumni. Professor Suk Kim delivered the well-received
Convocation address, and the family of Lloyd E. Fitzgerald, Dean of the College
of Commerce and Finance from 1935 to 1963, were present to see the presentation
of the award bearing his name.
The following awards were given:
Accounting Award—Richelle Sims, Kirk J. Wideen
Presented annually to graduating students in accounting in recognition of
outstanding academic achievement
Beta Alpha Psi Certificate— Richelle Sims
Presented by the financial information scholastic and professional fraternity
Beta Alpha Psi (Alpha Xi Chapter) to a graduating member demonstrating an
optimum record of service to the University and high scholastic achievement
Beta Alpha Psi Award—Merryle G. Westbrook
A plaque and certificate of merit given each year by Beta Alpha Psi (Alpha
Psi Chapter) to the graduating member who has earned the highest scholastic
average in his/her total undergraduate program.
Beta Gamma Sigma Award—Stephanie L. Echevarria, Yardley D.
Sawyer
An award presented by the national business and management honor society Beta
Gamma Sigma (Beta of Michigan chapter) to a graduating member in recognition
of outstanding academic achievement.
Computer and Information Systems Certificate—Jodie L. Back,
Pamela S. Bowers, Frank J. Corkalo, Flora S. Lebeyko, Angeline E. Raczkiewicz
A certificate presented annually to graduating students in computer and information
systems in recognition of outstanding academic achievement.
Computer and Information Systems Award—Ileana Cimpian, Brent
S. Shammami
A plague is awarded annually to a student in computer and information systems
who has demonstrated outstanding scholastic achievement and shows exceptional
promise as a scholar in this field.
Co-op Student of the Year—Gabriela Hinojosa
An award presented to the student selected by the UDM Cooperative Education
and Career Center for exceptional ability and potential in the student’s
career field.
Dean’s Leadership Key—Jessica A. McGrath, Dominic A.
Paluzzi
A key given annually to graduating seniors who have demonstrated outstanding
qualities of leadership and involvement in University-approved co-curricular
activities and who maintained overall academic excellence.
Dean’s Award—Shaun M. Cavanaugh, Antoine S. Flowers,
Brent S. Shammami
A certificate awarded to graduating seniors who have an optimum record of
student leadership and service to the College of Business Administration.
Finance Award—Kenneth H. Hemler, Matthew J. LaRocca
An award presented to a student in Finance who has demonstrated outstanding
scholastic achievement and show exceptional promise as a scholar in this field.
Financial Executives International Award—Dominic A. Paluzzi
Inscription of name on a plaque and recognition at a dinner meeting given
by the Detroit chapter of Financial Executives International presented to
an outstanding undergraduate student in Accounting and/or Finance.

Fitzgerald Award —Jessica A. McGrath
An award given each year in the name of Dr. Lloyd E. Fitzgerald, who was Dean
of the College of Commerce and Finance from 1935 to 1963, to the graduating
Business Administration senior designated as having the optimum record of
scholarship, student leadership, and service to the University.
Business Administration Award—Nicole N. Anaejionu, Dana L.
Castillo, Gabriela Hinojosa, Jessica A. McGrath, Miguel A. Meza, Richard A.
Rippey, Jill M. Sligay
A certificate presented annually by the Dean of the College to graduating
Business Administration students in recognition of outstanding academic achievement
in the College.
Human Resource Management—Polly J. Jones
An award granted to a graduating student who has demonstrated outstanding
scholastic achievement and shows exceptional promise as a scholar in the field.
International Business Award—Yalda Ghorashyzadeh
A plaque and a cash award of $500 presented to a graduating student concentrating
in International Business who has demonstrated scholastic excellence in the
College.
Management Award—Kathleen F. Wheeler
An award presented to a graduating senior in Management who has demonstrated
outstanding scholastic achievement and shows exceptional as a scholar in this
field.
Marketing Award—Andrew J. Harbour, Olukemi Olojo
An award presented to a graduating senior in Marketing who has demonstrated
outstanding scholastic achievement and shows exceptional as a scholar in this
field.
M.S.E.D. Scholarship Award—Gabriela Hinojosa, Kenneth J. Muller
A competitive scholarship of $2000 awarded to an outstanding marketing student
by the Marketing and Sales Executives of Detroit. Students are recognized
and the scholarships are presented at a dinner meeting of the M.S.E.D.
Wall Street Journal Award—Dominic A. Paluzzi
A plaque citation, medallion paperweight, and a year’s subscription
to the Wall Street Journal is awarded each year by Dow Jones and Company,
Inc., to the graduating student chosen for greatest achievement in college.
