Padilla Lounge provides welcoming haven for hardworking students
James J. Padilla ’69, ’70 and University President Gerard L. Stockhausen, S.J., at the Padilla Room dedication.
On Sept. 25, the Padilla Family Student Lounge and Study Area in the
Commerce & Finance Building was dedicated. The new lounge features comfortable furniture, wireless capabilities, and a small kitchen with vending machines. The room is decorated in the same modern palette as the rest of the C & F Building.
Says Dean Bahman Mirshab, “We are grateful to the Padilla family for their generosity. We now have a first-class working and gathering space available to all our students.”
After the room dedication, the Padilla family and other donors attended the rededication of St. Ignatius Chapel, also in the C & F Building. Both events were part of the University’s Founders Week.
The C & F Building renovation began in October 2000 with window replacement, roof repairs, and exterior cleaning. In July 2003, a complete overhaul of the building’s interior began. The new Padilla Lounge and renovated Chapel were results of this phase, which also included new classrooms, offices, alumni and College conference rooms, and a new student welcoming center. By August 2004, renovation was completed in preparation for fall term classes.
