CBA students awarded MSED scholarships

On September 29, CBA seniors Allison Dillard and Marc Miles were recognized for their excellence in both academics and industry. Each student received a $2,500 scholarship from the Marketing and Sales Executives of Detroit (MSED). MSED’s Education committee works with Detroit-area universities to present exceptional students working toward degrees in sales and marketing with scholarships funded from MSED events throughout the year. UDM students were well-represented in this year’s awards program, receiving two of the four scholarships awarded.

The students demonstrated outstanding academic achievements, together with community and campus involvement, all the while working to pay for their educations.

Dillard, who is from Macomb, has supported her entire UDM education on her own by managing pizza shops. After a successful summer internship with Visteon as a current model buyer, she has accepted a second offer to intern with the company. In the future, Dillard wants to own her own business.

Miles, of Richmond, has worked at a golf pro shop and Kmart to gain practical work experience in inventory control, sales, ordering, marketing and customer service. After graduation, he hopes to work in sales and marketing in the auto industry.

Says Bruce Brorby, CBA associate dean, “We are very pleased to have been invited to once again participate in the MSED scholarship program, and are extremely proud of the fact that, for the second year in a row, both of our candidates received scholarships.”

The award selection process begins when MSED distributes criteria for the scholarship program to the deans of business schools at five local colleges and universities, who refer their two most outstanding students. The MSED Education Committee then interviews the 10 students. Upon completion of the interviews, the most outstanding applicants are chosen by the committee for awards.

MSED is a non-profit organization for marketing and sales management professionals in southeastern Michigan. MSED provides members with an ongoing platform for idea exchange, professional development and new business opportunities.
