Dr. Lloyd Fitzgerald served as dean of the College of Business Administration for more than 25 years. During his tenure, Fitzgerald raised the profile of the College, recruited an outstanding faculty, successfully earned the College the distinctive AACSB accreditation and was a model teacher and mentor to many students.
As a way of honoring Dean Fitzgerald's legacy, his three sons, Jim, John and Jerry, have established a scholarship in his honor. The Fitzgerald scholarship is awarded annually to a non-traditional student who has demonstrated financial need, has excelled academically and professionally, and has senior status, as the scholarship assists the student in degree completion.
"Dad always had a warm spot in his heart for the working, non-traditional student. The Fitzgerald scholarship is a wonderful way of honoring his legacy at the College. He would be happy to know that an excellent student was able to complete an education at UDM because of such a scholarship," explains John Fitzgerald.
This year's scholarship was awarded to Evelyn J. Wynn of Detroit. Wynn is a part-time student, full-time employee and most importantly, a full-time mother. Her family celebrated this achievement with her at this year's Honors Convocation on April 2.
Scholarships are one of the most meaningful ways in which someone can make an impact in the lives of UDM students. Scholarships funds can be named after a donor, in memory of a family member or loved one, in honor of an individual or any other way a donor wishes. For more information about setting up a scholarship, please contact Greg Cascione, the director of Development for the College of Business Administration, by phone at 313-993-1232 or by e-mail at gregory.cascione@udmercy.edu.
