Commencement

This year's UDM Commencement ceremonies celebrated the accomplishments of several hundred new graduates, as well as some very special guests. In honor of the 50th anniversary of their Commencement, the Class of 1952 was invited to join in the festivities on the McNichols Campus May 11. Thirty-two members of the class, along with spouses, family and friends, participated in the Commencement mass, brunch, the procession, the ceremony, and the reception sponsored by the UDM Alumni Association. more on Commencement. . .

The Jesuit 100: Works in Progress

In 1995, the Jesuit community at UDM wanted to renovate Lansing-Reilly Hall, which houses the community's residence on the McNichols Campus. John Tierney (C&F ’55), longtime friend of the Jesuits, suggested that the UDM Jesuit community take a new approach to acquiring the necessary funds. Lay supporters, he said, could be involved in an ongoing relationship with the Jesuits, sharing actively in the Jesuits’ apostolic efforts. Carl Schmidt (E&S ’42) proposed calling the new group the Jesuit 100 Association. more on the Jesuit 100. . .

Mind Mapping: a Passion for Learning

If you're like most people, you aren’t using your brain--at least not your whole brain, according to Tony Buzan.
Buzan, the originator of Mind Maps(R), and a leading authority on learning, thinking and creativity, maintains that traditional methods of thinking and learning utilize only part of the brain and thus limit us to only part of our potential. And as he detailed in his introductory seminar on April 9 at UDM, his theories may be useful for anyone who learns or teaches. More about Mind Mapping. . .

Magis Awards: In a Higher Degree

The Magis Awards are presented annually at the Honors Convocation by the Jesuit 100 Association to members of the University of Detroit Mercy community who go above and beyond their job or student responsibilities to enhance the Catholic identity of the University. This year’s winners were Mary Lou Caspers, Patricia Hall-Thomas, and Jonathan Sanders. More on the Magis Awards . . .
