Students
experience technology fun
Impact, Winter
2002
More
than 1,000 students from 34 high schools throughout metro Detroit attended
UDM’s Technology Discovery Day 2002, Oct. 18. The event, sponsored
by the College of Engineering & Science, included a chemistry magic
show, explorations in Biology, and corporate displays from Ford Motor
Company, DaimlerChrysler, General Motors, Regal Plastics, Detroit Diesel,
Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc., and Giffels-Webster Engineering.
The
students participated in a variety of competitions to test their engineering
and science skills, such as designing a toothpick bridge to withstand
weight, creating a mousetrap car for maximum speed, and building the highest
straw tower.
The purpose of the annual event is to generate stronger interest in
the engineering and science curricula and show young students that science
and engineering can be fun.
