& Science Scrapbook
About a dozen engineering students, under the direction of Engineering
Professor and SAE Advisor Nassif Rayess, designed and built UDM’s
entry in the SAE Baja Car competition, June 5-8 in Dayton, Ohio.
This year, the College of Engineering & Science celebrates the 75th
anniversary of the Engineering and Chemistry buildings, among the oldest
buildings on the McNichols Campus. As part of Homecoming 2003 activities,
alumni received an historical overview of the buildings and programs through
the years and a preview of upcoming renovations.
Phi Sigma Kappa Reunion
Approximately 16 alumni of the Phi Sigma Kappa, Theta Tetarton Chapter,
from U of D attended a reunion last October at Jacoby’s restaurant
in Detroit. The group reminisced over dinner and learned of current UDM
activities from Phi Sigma Kappa brother Leo Hanifin, dean, College of
Engineering & Science.
Boy scouts earn Chemistry badge
The UDM Chemistry Club hosted a merit badge clinic on February 1, 2003,
for seven boy scouts interested in earning the chemistry merit badge.
Among the day’s activities, the scouts learned the essentials of
acid-based chemistry, how paper chromatography works, why metals are coated
in various applications, and how the components of fertilizers are used
as paints grow.
