27 lecture to focus on “Theology of the Spirituals”

On March 27, the College of Liberal Arts & Education and University
Ministry will host a lecture by Joseph Brown, S.J., professor and director
of the Black American Studies Program at Southern Illinois University
at Carbondale, who will speak on “Theology of the Spirituals &
Their Message For Us Today.”
Brown is a nationally-recognized leader in the African-American Catholic
community, a well-known speaker, and the author of To Stand on the Rock:
Meditations on Black Catholic Identity.
He will be accompanied by a Gospel Choir performing the pieces which
he will discuss in his lecture. This promises to be an exciting, enriching,
encouraging, and uplifting event for the whole city of Detroit.
