Great Things At Detroit Mercy

  • Detroit Mercy Pre-Physician Assistant students who meet the criteria at the time of application to the graduate P.A. program will be guaranteed an interview with the P.A. admissions committee. This is a special consideration for Detroit Mercy Pre-PA graduates only.
  • Pre-P.A. students complete a strong program in Biology, Biochemistry or Chemistry that prepares students for graduate programs in P.A. Detroit Mercy’s P.A. school reviews and provides input on the curriculum.
  • The Physician Assistant Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, holds membership in the Association of Physician Assistant Programs and is host to a student chapter of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
  • All courses are taught by faculty members — not teaching assistants or graduate students.
  • Small class sizes — our average student-to-teacher ratio is 11:1; that means plenty of individualized attention aimed at making sure our students succeed.

Physician Assistant is one the fastest growing health care professions. Physician Assistants have a critical role in meeting the primary care needs of the United States.

Physician Assistants conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery and write prescriptions. Physician Assistants work in a variety of practices, including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology and surgery.
