Great Things At Detroit Mercy

  • Health Information Management classes begin during a student’s first semester at Detroit Mercy.
  • The program includes an internship where students will work directly with professionals in the field. Many internships lead to permanent positions.
  • Small class sizes — our average student-to-teacher ratio is 11:1; that means plenty of individualized attention aimed at making sure our students succeed.
  • In the tradition of our Jesuit and Mercy sponsors, Detroit Mercy offers a well-rounded education. We don’t just teach HIM; we create community leaders.

Your Boundless Future

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for health information professionals will increase by 23 percent through 2022. Health Information Management graduates go to hold positions as HIM Director, clinical data analyst, privacy officer, EHR adoption and support, corporate compliance and consultant.

These professionals work in a variety of settings such as hospitals, physician offices, clinics, health departments, health insurance companies, ambulatory care facilities, third-party billing companies, consulting firms and software companies.

“University of Detroit Mercy took the core of who I was, evaluated my learning style and developed my mind. The professors were professional and personal. They cared about each of their students and taught in a format that allowed each student to succeed. I graduated from this University with honors and I took the knowledge that I gained from Detroit Mercy into my current Health Information Management career. I can confidently say I would not have the same ethical beliefs or the level of knowledge that I currently have without the University of Detroit Mercy’s HIM program.”
